The county continuously worked to keep up with the snowfall this winter.

Otsego and Plainwell school years will go deeper into June

Daniel Pepper, Interim Editor

Both local school districts have added several days to the school year to compensate for the large number of snow days this past winter.

In Plainwell, 10 canceled days stretches the school year to Thursday, June 12.
“Our original end of the year was Friday, June 6,” Superintendent Susan Wakefield said.
Otsego had nine canceled days and plans to finish Wednesday, June 11.
Earlier in the year, some school officials had speculated the State of Michigan might step in and forgive some of the days required, given the especially harsh winter experienced statewide.
Wakefield said, “There hasn’t been anything coming out about that.”
Overall, Allegan County’s nine school districts closed for a total of 109 days among them.
