Otsego and Plainwell robotics launch into first competition

Ryan Lewis, Staff Writer

Otsego and Plainwell robotics teams took to the court at Gull Lake High School Saturday, March 8, for their first competition for this season’s FIRST program.

For the “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” robotics competition, teams of high school students design and build robots in January and February to compete in an arena.

The challenge in that arena changes annually; this year, three-team alliances must cooperate to maneuver around a court and chuck beach balls through a variety of scoring slots, earning more points if they can pass to another on their way to scoring.

Plainwell High School’s Trojans team finished the day in 27th place in a field of 40, with a record of 5-7.

Otsego High School’s Alotobots team, in its inaugural competition, finished in 29th place with a record of 4-8.
