COLOMA—“This one hurts a heck of a lot,” Otsego High School junior Seth Dugan said moments after his team dropped a 78-73 overtime heart-breaker to Benton Harbor in a Class B regional basketball final on Wednesday, March 12.

He said, “I didn’t think I’d ever hurt like last year when we got bumped out (of districts by Plainwell) with (older brother) Reid. This one’s right up there.

Otsego boys’ basketball coach Josh Holmes said he and his players approached this season with great expectations.

“We know we have a talented team and these guys have had a lot of pressure on them since day one,” Holmes said. “People expected a lot from us. We expected a lot from ourselves.”
And while the Bulldogs accomplished many of their goals this season—including a third straight Wolverine Conference championship and a second district title in three years—they fell short of their ultimate goal of a state championship.
