Otsego Public Schools: Scot Reitenour
Otsego Public Schools has three six-year seats up for election. Incumbent Renny R. Ransbottom is joined in the race by Eric DeJong, Lisa L. Imus, Jay Petty, Stephen E. Podewell and Scot Reitenour.
Board treasurer Donna Weeldreyer and trustee Michael Cronen decided not to run for reelection.
Candidates were each asked what they thought of the superintendent’s decisions and how they would address the district’s budget.
Reitenour, 44, and his wife, Mary, have been part of the Otsego community for 14 years. They have two children—Jon, 11, at Otsego Middle School, and Alayna, 9, at Alamo Elementary. He has an associate’s degree in electronic engineering technology from ITT Technical Institute. He is a sales manager at RoMan Manufacturing; he is also a partner in a commercial investment property and has managed several rental properties.
“My professional experiences, my two children in the Otsego Public Schools, and my wife—a teacher here for 18 years—all allow me to assist the school board in making decisions.
“Above all else, the school board should function as a unified group that will make academic excellence for all students a priority.
“I have been impressed with Mr. Haase’s ability to effectively communicate his thoughts and goals; if elected, I look forward to assisting Mr. Haase in accomplishing those goals.
“The most pressing issue for the school board is managing school finances. The school board needs to work collaboratively to seek additional funding through grant writing and incentives and help the superintendent meet the district’s goals and objectives.
