I know, I know, I know. Last week I wrote about the importance of voting.
Now, I want you to know why, at the presidential level, your vote might not be all that important. You see we select our president not by popular vote, but by the Electoral College. Each state, according to population, is given a certain number of electoral college votes.
California, the state with the largest population by far is given 39. Other least populated states might get 2, 3, 5 etc.
Your vote is somewhat valuable in that the presidential candidate that gets the most votes in a particular state receives all the electoral votes. This occurs in 48 out of the 50 states. For example in California, it is certain Biden will win, thus he will get all 39 votes in that state.
