We can tsk-tsk about the rise in concussions, off-field assaults and use of performance-enhancing drugs, but the more we keep buying the product, the more we’ll see them.

Are you ready for some football? It is Jan. 22. I am ready for football to be over.

It’s not like the holiday bowl games sated me. From the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl through the Popeyes Bahama Bowl, Duck Commander Independence Bowl and 34 others leading to the National Championship Presented by AT&T, I have been glued to my set. And seat.

Still, football was once a fall sport. Winter meant basketball. What changed? Folks are ready to pay for football now year-round.
