Plainwell school board candidates work for unity
There was no detectable animosity during the 2014 Plainwell school board candidate forum Monday, Sept. 22.
“We’re all great candidates,” said Leandra Burke, who is challenging the four incumbents in four-year seats. “You can’t lose with this one.”
The forum, moderated by Gun Plain Township board trustee Ron Kopka, gave each candidate on the Nov. 4 ballot for five seats on the school board the chance to speak about what they feel is important.
Burke is challenging incumbents Amy Blades, Kim Shafer, Shannon Zabaldo and Julli Bennett for four four-year seats and Thom Berlin is running uncontested for the lone two-year term.
Each candidate took time to express how important they believed unity is—not just unity of the board but also unity of the district as a whole.
