Jack Pfeiffer, a 2013 Otsego graduate, will emcee a short ceremony taking place prior to the game.

Otsego's purple game to take place Friday

OTSEGO – The Friday Purple Game on Sept. 26 in celebration of the 2014 Purple Community Events to go purple to give support for cancer research, starts at 5:30 p.m. in Otsego’s Bulldog Stadium with a community gathering.

Local businesses and organizations will be set up with informational booths. Face-painting will be offered for children. A raffle table to win personalized Purple Community memorabilia will be available, and fun purple items such as T-shirts, beads, bracelets and glow sticks will be for sale. Cancer survivors can also stop in for a white ribbon.

A short ceremony will take place prior to the game with 2013 Otsego graduate and cancer survivor Jack Pfeiffer serving as the emcee.

“I feel honored to represent Otsego at the purple game, which has become such an important event here the past few years,” Pfeiffer said. “I think it will be a great way to show everyone in the community how much their support helps cancer patients during their struggles.”

The honorees joining him on the field will be staff members who are also cancer survivors.

“Events like this make us think of how cancer has hit our own families, so the committee wanted to honor those in our school family who have also been affected by cancer,” said communications director Holly McCaw. “We will also take a moment to recognize the cancer survivors in the stands and pause to honor those who are no longer with us.”

With other athletic teams joining in the Purple Community Events, many players will be contributing to the chance raffle prizes. There are four prizes, one to be drawn during each quarter of the football game.

The first quarter feature will be a team-signed soccer ball. The second quarter will be a team-signed volleyball. The third quarter will be a team-signed football.  The fourth quarter will be a team-signed purple football jersey with the number 20 on the front and the number 14 on the back (for 2014.)

Purple fireworks from Captain Boom will cap off the band’s halftime performance.
