Tax hiked from 1.3 mills to 1.5 mills
Scott Sullivan, Editor

Saugatuck City Council joined Douglas and Saugatuck Township peers Monday approving a Saugatuck Township Fire District tax hike from 1.3 mills to 1.5 mills.

The district, which serves all three municipalities, expects the increase to generate about $100,000 during the 2014-15 fiscal year, which it will put into a first-time capital improvement funds. With the elected governments’ approval, there will be no public vote on the matter.

The fire board will hold a public hearing on its proposed budget in Saugatuck City Hall, 102 Butler St., Monday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m.
