Owner of Saugatuck's former Elbo Room seeks liquor license

The owner of the 100-seat, riverfront building that once housed the Elbo Room hopes to reopen a restaurant at 880 Holland St. with new operators and a liquor license.

Saugatuck City Council Monday tabled acting on Larry Basil’s request to apply to Michigan Liquor Control Commission for a Class C Resort or Quota License trans­fer. Members said they hoped to learn more about his plans there and receive input from site neighbors.

“We’ve heard concerns about this property before,” said councilman Barry John­son. “It’s in a mixed-use area with homes nearby.
