The opening game of Saugatuck’s SAC crossover volleyball match against Marcellus on Tuesday, Aug. 26, was largely one-sided.
Games two and three were much more highly contested.
Despite the differences in the games, the end result was the same in all three as the Indians claimed the 25-11, 26-24, 25-23 victory in the opening match of league play.
“It was great to start off the (conference) season with a win,” Saugatuck coach Sherri Austin said.
Austin was particularly pleased with the effort in Game One.
“In the first game we really connected with each other and the offense and defense clicked,” she said. “We feel the intensity of our play dropped off in the second and third games. To continue to compete with higher skilled teams we we’ll need to build on the chemistry and the team working as one.
“All in all, though, it was a very successful start.”
