As renovations to the Kirby House continue, Douglas City Council approved the owner's pursuit of a liquor license for a bed and breakfast.

Douglas OKs Kirby House liquor request

Douglas City Council Monday gave a green light for Kirby House owner Jay Deratany to pursue a Class C resort or liquor license for a bed and breakfast in the building he is restoring.

“We’re looking to provide bar and restaurant services in a C-1 Commercial district,” said attorney Mike Haddock, representing Deratany.

“We don’t plan a noisy nightclub. That wouldn’t work with a bed and breakfast. Crews are working on the building and we are eager to get it open.

“We’re applying for whichever license falls open first,” he said.
