Consolidation ashes stirred by April 1 state grants

“It’s not over until it’s over,” said Yogi Berra about his game, baseball. The same appears true of consolidation.

The Michigan Treasury Department’s announcement on April Fool’s Day it had awarded $13 million in grants to local governments and agencies under a program that encourages consolidating services drew contrasting comments here five months after Douglas and Saugatuck voters scotched an effort to merge the cities.
