Boorsma, Leatherman supporters should wise up

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 4:21 PM EDT

To the editor: Todd Boorsma. There’s a name that should make a lot of people angry. Singlehandedly, he stopped more than 1,800 jobs from coming to Allegan County.

A moral majority of one, Mr. Boorsma made a conscious decision to stop the Gun Lake Tribe from opening a casino in Wayland Township.

He believes it’s a sin to gamble. I guess he doesn’t believe that the state-sponsored Lottery is gambling. Maybe it’s just the Indians he doesn’t like.

I, for one, don’t like Mr. Boorsma doing my thinking for me. I guess he thinks those who don’t gamble, are too ignorant to not go to the casino. He had to make sure we wouldn’t be lured by those demons who run a business that has gambling as one of its attractions.

Whoops, did I say business? They can’t be a business because Boorsma says he’s pro-business. Being pro-business, you wouldn’t try to stop business from coming to Allegan County, would you?

All of the people supporting Mr. Boorsma better start thinking. According to the St. Ignace Fire Department, the casinos up there make sure local firefighters and police have all the equipment they want and need. We may be losing their support here because of Mr. Boorsma, even though they are approved now.

What’s he going to dislike next? Tool and die shops? Grocery stores where they sell beer and liquor? Wonder if he’ll try to put them out of business.

How many people have to leave this country because of no work thanks to Mr. Boorsma? How many people filed bankruptcy and lost houses and perhaps their families because of Mr. Boorsma?

Another state House candidate, Josh Leatherman, had an anti-casino position on his Web site until the tribe won their court case. He then removed it from his Web site. Apparently he goes whichever way the wind blows at that moment. Obviously he doesn’t have the courage of his convictions.

This guy says he’s going to follow in Fulton Sheen’s footsteps. Can anybody tell me what Sheen has done for this district? I still can’t find anyone who knows.

If Leatherman follows Sheen’s invisible footsteps, does that mean we will all be wondering what he’s doing in Lansing too?

All you people supporting Leatherman and Boorsma had better wake up and do some research about these people whose signs are in your yards!
