Hamilton girls’ soccer falls to state power Unity Christian

Leo Martonosi

aking on Hudsonville Unity Christian in girls’ soccer is never an easy chore.
“We won’t play a more talented team,” said Hamilton coach Lauren Robinson.
The visitors from Hudsonville, coached by Randy Heethuis, have won eight Division 3 state championships during the last 10 years.
“We have a lot of tradition,” Heethuis said after the Crusaders registered a 7-0 OK Green win over the Hawkeyes on Monday, May 11, in a battle between two of the top three league teams. “The girls have high expectations.”
The wide difference on the scoreboard could have been even wider if not for the play of Hamilton goalie Taryn Meiste.
“(Meiste) played very well,” Heethuis said. “She made a lot of tough saves.”
Robinson wasn’t surprised  Meiste played so well.
“She’s a very good goalie,” Robinson said. “She’s been making saves like that all season.”
The Crusaders scored one less goal in their previous win over the 9-4-1 Hawkeyes.
“We actually played better tonight than we did in our first game against Unity,” Robinson said.
