Marvin Burd, 92
Marvin Burd, 92, of Saugatuck passed away peacefully at Holland Hospital surrounded by family after a long battle with the effects of diabetes on May 2, 2018.
He was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Otsego to H. Kirk and Beryl Burd. He had many fond memories as a young boy playing along the shores of Lake Michigan in Ganges Township on his parents' property.
Marv joined the Navy and served during World War II.
He married Jean Burd on June 23, 1946. His career in management took them and their three sons to adventurous places to live in Thailand, Turkey, Iran and Washington, DC.
Later in life he settled back in Saugatuck where he worked in real estate.
Marv spent his energies on becoming an expert on the game of bridge and honing his artistic abilities on his Cigar Band Fish Art. He will be fondly remembered for his cheerful disposition.
Marvin is survived by his three sons, Stephen (Marsha) Burd, Douglas Burd and Mark (Joyce) Burd; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jean Burd; sister Shirley Gilman; and great-grandson Grant Burd.
Services will be at Chappell Funeral Home, 637 W. Main St., Fennville, MI 49408, on Monday, May 7. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., with service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Plummerville Cemetery in Ganges Township.
After burial, everyone is invited to share memories of Marv at the home of Stephen Burd, 2170 Lakeshore Dr. Fennville, MI 49408.
