Beverly Ruth (Gorby) Huff, 83
Beverly Ruth (Gorby) Huff, 83, of Allegan, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, Oct. 30, 2014, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo with her children by her side.
Born Sept. 21, 1931, she is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Richard "Dick" McMillen Huff; her children, Lynette Huff and Brian Gorby Huff and his wife Nanette; grandchildren, Megan Von Schonhoff and her husband Bernard IV, and AFC Alexander Huff; great-grandson Bernard Von Schonhoff V; and her five loving siblings, Glenn, Shirley, Molly, Ted, Rick and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn E. and Ruth A. (LaVoy) Gorby also of Allegan and daughter Laurie Jan Huff of Holland.
A lifelong resident of Allegan, Bev and Dick married on March 4, 1951. She worked in the office at Perrigo early in her marriage while Richard served in the armed forces in Korea. Later, she managed the bookkeeping for the family business, R.B. Huff 5 cent to $1.00 Store, for many years while raising her family. She had also been active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She had served as a Brownie leader when her girls were young and was very active in the First Congregational Church and then the Christ Community Church in Allegan throughout her life.
Known throughout the community as an excellent cook, she loved to please friends and family with newly discovered recipes and many old standbys.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Nov. 3, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 3370 113th Ave. Allegan, until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. Pastor G. Patrick White will be officiating. Inurnment will be at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Township, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Beverly would have liked memorial contributions to be made to Christ Community Church, 3370 113th Avenue, Allegan, MI 49010 or to a charity of one's choice.
