Robert Lee "Bob" Killick, 91
Robert Lee "Bob" Killick, of Plainwell died in his sleep in the early morning hours of Aug. 3, 2014, at the age of 91. Bob was the son of Lee J. and Hattie (Beattie) Killick, born March 14, 1923.
Bob grew up working on the home farm and he graduated from Delton W. K. Kellogg Agricultural High School on May 29, 1941. He attended Michigan State University studying agriculture and graduated in 1943.
In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy and reported for basic training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, Ill. After basic training, he went to Norfolk, Va., for amphibious training. Bob was discharged as a "Motor Machinist Mate" Aug. 15, 1946, and returned home to his family, safe and sound. Over the years, he has continued to keep in touch with members of the crew. In 1986, they had their first reunion and it was held in Norfolk, Va.
Bob married Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Gurd on June 4, 1949, in Delton at the Methodist Church. As the home farm could not sustain two families, Bob was also employed by the Kellogg Company of Battle Creek for 31 years, from May 4, 1953, through May 4, 1984, when he retired.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; son Steven (Jeanne) Killick and her son Brian (Karen) Brown and their children, Bailey and Bryant DeBolt; son Mark Killick and Mark's sons and their children, Doug (Kari) Stull, Doug Jr., Adam and Victoria; Robert H. Killick and Mark Jr. (Tonya) Killick.
