Voters renew millages for schools, Saugatuck Township May 6

According to preliminary results, operating millage renewals passed by wide margins for Fennville, Otsego and Plainwell school districts in the Tuesday, May 6, election. Saugatuck Township voters also renewed its other road maintenance millage.

Vote totals:

Fennville Public Schools’ 18-mill non-homestead operating millage was renewed for one year by a vote of 395-89 (82 percent voted in favor). The tax will generate an estimated $2.4 million in revenue for the district.

Otsego Public Schools’ 18-mill non-homestead operating millage was renewed for 10 years by a vote of 727-235 (76 percent in favor). The tax will generate an estimated $1.8 million in revenue for the district in its first year (2014).

Plainwell Community Schools’ 18-mill non-homestead operating millage was renewed for 12 years by a vote of 633-275 (70 percent in favor). The tax will generate an estimated $1,989,000 in school revenue in its first year (2014).

Saugatuck Township voters renewed a five-year, 1-mill levy for road maintenance by a vote of 191-36 (77 percent in favor). It will raise an estimated $257,795 in 2014 and continue through 2018.

The township has another 1-mill road millage on the tax rolls for the same purpose, renewed last August for five years.

Election results will this week be reviewed for final certification by the county’s canvassing board.
