Something offal this way sloshes

The corner of Main Street and Maple Street in downtown Fennville experienced a foul stench shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday, July 7.

The repulsive odor was the result of a near miss between a Krueger-Copeland truck and a dog.

The driver of the truck said a dog ran out in front him at the intersection and he had to apply the breaks quickly. The sudden stop resulted in a wave reaction in the trailer hauling the entrails from the Plainwell slaughterhouse. The wave sloshed the entrails up and over the front of the open trailer resulting in the spill. He said a crew was on the way to clear the road of the mess and the job was completed within a couple of hours.

However it was not soon enough for a restaurant patron who had to leave due to the smell.

She said, “I thought I was going to gag. I’ll come back after it’s gone.”
