Many individuals have their life insurance and will in place. The one thing that often gets forgotten about or overlooked is having an Advance Healthcare Plan ready.
This type of plan provides instructions for medical care if an individual is unable to make them on his or her own—for example if they are unconscious when a medical decision will detemrine their care.
To that end, Allegan General Hospital Foundation and Wings of Hope Hospice are sponsoring a free community presentation “Having the Conversation” on Tuesday, April 22, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Michigan Room at Allegan General Hospital, 555 Linn St., Allegan.
This presentation will feature Dr. Colleen Tallen, author of “Decide While You Can: How to Make Your Own Medical Decisions Before Someone Makes Them for You.”
Tallen will discuss the importance of planning ahead for health care needs. She will also be available following the presentation to sign copies of her book.
Reservations can be made by calling the foundation at (269) 686-4234 or Wings of Hope Hospice at (269) 686-8659.
Both Wings of Hope Hospice and Allegan General Hospital are participating organizations in a regional collaboration known as Making Choices Michigan, which seeks to foster discussions among families, loved ones and caregivers about advance care planning.
