Salem Township shooting wounds one

Daniel Pepper, Staff Writer

A Salem Township man has been jailed after allegedly shooting a friend of his girlfriend after an argument.

The victim, a 24-year-old from Byron Center, was in serious but stable condition at a Grand Rapids hospital, the Allegan County Sheriff Department said.

Police were called about 3:20 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, to a home in the 3100 block of Ottagan Road and arrested the alleged perpetrator. The victim had run to another house after being shot.

Sheriff department Capt. Frank Baker said it appeared the dispute began earlier.

“There had been an argument earlier and the suspect’s girlfriend had left the home,” Baker said. “The suspect had contacted the girlfriend wanting her to return.

“The girlfriend did”... “but brought friends, one of which ended up being the victim of the shooting.”

The sheriff department said the perpetrator fired multiple shots at the victim and struck him in the legs.

Police withheld the name of the alleged perpetrator, 23, until his arraignment on a charge of attempted murder.
