Power restored after cut tree knocked out Allegan power

Ryan Lewis, editor

Power to more than 1,000 residents and businesses was restored Monday, July 14, in Allegan after a tree was cut down, snagging power lines and snapping a utility pole.

A private crew was cutting the tree in a residential front yard on Delano Street between Goodwin and Oak, just outside the Allegan City limits.

At about 1 p.m., it took down the power line suspended over the road. It was restored at approximately 3 p.m.

That cut power to businesses and city hall on Locust Street all the way up water tower hill to Allegan High School. Power to the Allegan Police station was cut too. The outage reached as far south as Hubard Street, though the lights were on for those on the south side of the street.

Allegan Fire District and the Allegan County Sheriff Department blocked the road while a Consumers Energy crew worked; Consumers was on scene by about 2 p.m.
