Holland woman, Julie Ann Shaffer, killed in crash with semi on M-40

FILLMORE TWP.—A Holland woman was killed early Thursday, March 29, in a fatal crash on M-40.

Julie Ann Shaffer, 30, was killed in the crash, which happened about on M-40 near 140th Avenue.

According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called the crash about 4:12 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said from initial investigation it appeared Shaffer had been driving west on 140th Avenue and may have failed to stop on the intersection.

Her Ford Escape was struck on the passenger side by a semi truck pulling a trailer that was being driven south on M-40 by a 60-year-old South Haven man. The semi and trailer ended up in a field southwest of the intersection and the SUV ended up on the east side of M-40.

The crash remains under investigation.

AMR ambulance, the Overisel Township Fire Department and the Hamilton Area Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s office with the crash.
