Allegan couple blessed with baby girl
One Allegan couple, Kelly and Greg Tuffelmire, were recently blessed with something they weren’t sure they would ever have—a daughter.
The couple met while living in Colorado, Greg is originally from Allegan and Kelly from Huntington Beach, Calif.
After visiting Allegan with Greg, Kelly convinced him to move back to Allegan where the pair currently own and operate Allegan True Value.
Three years ago Kelly was diagnosed with cervical cancer.
“Before they started chemo(therapy), her eggs were harvested,” said Greg Tuffelmire. “At the time it was really up in the air as far as what was going to happen (with a surrogate).”
Fast forward a couple years and Kelly’s sister Heidi Hoffman-Galindo came to visit the couple from California.
“She saw how good Kelly was with her niece and nephew and Heidi thought ‘Wow, she deserves this,’” said Greg Tuffelmire.
Hoffman-Galindo offered to be a surrogate for the couple.
Greg said the pair knew they only had one shot and were thrilled it worked.
The pregnancy consisted of a lot of Skype and FaceTime video chats said Greg.
“We didn’t get out (to California) until after the baby was born,” he said. “She came about a week early, but we weren’t too far behind her.”
Porter Tuffelmire was born Tuesday, June 24, two days before her parents arrived.
The trio is set to return to Allegan Tuesday, July 8.
Greg said, “I just can’t wait to get back home and start building a family.”
