Where do you go to see fashion “Light Up The Night”—for a good cause?
Plainwell, of course. Or so Envy, the local consignment shop for women’s apparel size 12 and up, would have you believe.
The store will be hosting its 2014 fashion show Wednes-day, June 4, at 6 p.m. in the space above the Calico Rabbit Craft and Antique Mall, 130 N. Main St., in Plainwell.
Envy owner Tracee Dunlop said a lot of people had told her it would be a fun idea.
“Everybody’s kept mentioning they want a fashion show, so this seemed like a good time,” Dunlop said.
The event will donate 50 percent of its proceeds to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Southwest Michigan.
“We wanted to do something for charity, and I’m quite fond of animals,” Dunlop said.
She has four dogs, two of them rescues, along with a cat and four ducks.
“And I’d have a lot more if I could,” Dunlop said.
The focus on animals for the charitable part of the evening was also apropos because Envy bills itself as an animal friendly store.
“We’ve got water dishes outside for the dogs and some treats inside,” Dunlop said.
The show will feature 15 models.
“They’re all customers at the shop, and they’re all different ages and sizes,” Dunlop said.
Convincing them to join in was no trouble at all, she said.
“Very easy, actually,” Dunlop said. “A lot of them came in and were asking to do it.
“It’s just going to be a fun night.”
The event will auction off a pair of gift baskets valued at about $400 as well as two airline tickets to anywhere in North America or the Caribbean. In addition, 12 to 15 home-based businesses will be showing off their wares.
Dunlop said the space above the Calico Rabbit was very nice and well suited to their needs. It features a chair lift for anyone with trouble negotiating the stairs, and help will be available for anyone who could use it
Tickets are $15 and are available ahead of time at Envy, 118 E. Bridge St., or the Calico Rabbit.
