Hundreds of people gathered in Hicks Park in downtown Plainwell for the seventh annual “Racin’ the Island City” event on Thursday, June 12.
The evening had options for runners of all skill levels with a 1-mile family fun run prior to the beginning of the 5K/10K race through downtown neighborhoods.
Those completing the 10K race simply ran the 5K loop twice.
If the races didn’t interest you, the Plainwell Education Foundation also planned a “Crawlin’ the Island City” pub crawl.
Participants received a passport on which they could collect from each participating location—Rhino’s Hometown Pub, Joe’s Pizza and Sports Bar, 10th Street Saloon and the Old Mill Brewpub and Grill.
The Plainwell Education Foundation raised approximately $2,500 from the event.
Race results were as follows:
1st: Chris Robson of Plainwell with a time of 17:51
2nd: Luke Boulter of Plainwell with a time of 18:38
3rd: Isaac Davis of Kalamazoo with a time of 18:41.
