“People who were to experience First Baptist would always grow in their love for God and their love for people.”
First Baptist Church of Plainwell’s new pastor, George Osborn, said the above statement is the vision and goal of the church—for everyone who attends to grow in love.
Osborn recently accepted the position of senior pastor. His first Sunday was April 13, Palm Sunday, with his installation service taking place Sunday, June 1.
Originally from Coldwater, he, his wife Aimee and their three children; Kyle, Elli and Emma, have relocated to the Plainwell area.
After graduating from Western Michigan University, Osborn stayed in the southwest region of Michigan. He served as the associate pastor at Country Christian Evangelical Free Church in Scotts before moving to Schoolcraft and working as the biblical studies teacher at Granger Christian School.
Osborn said he wasn’t seeking a specific position when submitting resumes.
“We were open to where God said to go,” he said. “We weren’t looking for a specific community or church, just where God wanted us.”
After visiting First Baptist, Osborn said he really enjoyed the people and community.
“My family and I kept praying and hoping for God to bring us here and he did,” he said.
The church is home to an older generation, and, at 30 years old, Osborn said he was brought on to revive the congregation.
“We are trying to reach young families and lost people for Christ,” he said.
