Fire in Gun Plain totally destroys house
Gun Plain Township firefighters responded to a fire early Friday, Aug. 1, that totally destroyed a home east of Plainwell.
Fire Lt. Brian Meert said they were called about 3:30 a.m. and found the single-story home on M-89 just east of 6th Street in Gun Plain Township totally in flames when they arrived.
The home’s single occupant was not injured.
“The woman noticed a small fire and walked to the neighbors’ and called 9-1-1 from there,” Meert said.
Because the house was fully involved, Gun Plain called on Plainwell, Otsego, Martin and Prairieville Township firefighters for extra manpower and water supply.
The firefighters left the scene about 8 a.m.
Meert said the fire had started in a dining room area, according to the woman, but the fire’s cause was still being investigated.
