Fire destorys business near Pine Lake
A fire completely destroyed Pine Lake Boat and Motor late Sunday, Feb. 8.
According to Gun Plain Township Fire Chief Tom Meert, the call came in just after 8 p.m. and when firefighters arrived at the business, on Doster Road between 109th Avenue and Pine Road in the northeast corner of the township, it was fully engulfed in flames.
Meert said fighting the fire took a long time, with firefighters finishing around 3:30 a.m.
“The roof collapsed and we couldn’t get under it,” he said. “It was quite a struggle. For one, all the water turned into ice pretty quick wherever we were putting water.
“It was a skating rink.”
Firefighters from the Prairieville Township Pine Lake Fire Department were on the scene with Gun Plain, Meert said, while the Martin, Delton, Orangeville and Plainwell departments sent some help. No firefighters were hurt.
The location did cause a bit of a mystery as to whose fire scene it was, Meert said.
“It is actually in Gun Plain Township,” Meert said. “We weren’t sure it was ours, but it is ours. It’s the east side of Doster Road, but there’s two houses and that business there that are in our township.
“The road sort of jogs there.”
Meert said there was no word on the cause of the fire and the severity of the fire would make investigation difficult.
“It’s gonna be hard to determine that,” he said.
