Otsego sweeps singles flights to claim regional title
Alright, everyone, it’s time for today’s word of the day.
That word is “dominant.”
As in, the Otsego boys’ tennis team was dominant in securing a Division 4 regional title in Paw Paw on Saturday, Oct. 11.
That dominance was particularly evident in the singles flights, where the Bulldogs won all four flight championships in straight sets to account for a big chunk of their 27 points.
Niles Brandywine was second with 22 points and host Paw Paw was third with 19 points. Both joined Otsego in advancing to the state finals in Holland on Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18.
Otsego coach Chuck Parker was understandably pleased with his team’s effort.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more from them,” Parker said of his singles players. “They were tremendous.”
First singles Luke Ford led the way for the Bulldogs, posting a 6-1, 6-4 win in his title match against Niles Brandywine’s Chance Smith.
This will be the third straight trip to the state finals for the junior standout, who qualified as an individual the past two seasons.
