The Allegan bowling teams hosted Wolverine Conference title contender Otsego at Sunset Lanes on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The Allegan girls played Otsego tough, but didn’t have enough to claim the victory as the Bulldogs won 17-13.
“Otsego got off to a good start, winning the first game 737-636,” Allegan coach Tonia Lamb said. “Game two was a reversal of fortune as Allegan won 717-642 so after the regular play Otsego only had an 11-9 lead.
“We stayed hot in the first Baker game, winning 186-153. Otsego won game two by a score of 157-120. This gave the Baker game series to Otsego 310-306, giving them the last two points to also give them the match.
“It was a very good match by both teams.”
In the first regular game, Otsego was led by Charlotte Phillips (199) and Shelby Weaver (171). Allegan’s top scorer was Brittany Rutherford (170).
In game two, Allegan came back with three good performances from Rutherford (172), Samantha Zeran (151) and Cortnie Cook (147). Otsego countered with Renee Bryan’s 147 to maintain the slim lead heading into the Baker games.
The Otsego boys’ team had a much easier time with Allegan winning 27-3.
The Bulldogs put away Allegan by winning both regular games and both Baker games. However, the Tigers did not go quietly as they rolled one of their best series in the defeat.
Allegan coach Don Lamb said, “The Allegan boys bowled their best set of the year against a strong Otsego team, rolling two individual games of 800 each for a 1600 series.”
The Bulldogs won game one 904-800 and game two 910-800. In the Baker games, Otsego out-bowled Allegan 186-146 and 191-140.
Otsego was led by their ace bowler Luke Ford with games of 236-177. Other top bowlers for Otsego were Robert Bryan—236, Sagan Gabos—179 and Jared Blanchard—173.
Allegan had top performances from first-year bowler Darius Gilson who rolled a personal best 169, Cole Evans 191, Craig Holly 180 and Jordan Lambert 173.
