At 7 feet tall, Otsego senior Seth Dugan has a way of standing out in a crowd.
He certainly stood out in the Bulldogs’ Wolverine Conference East clash with visiting Allegan on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Dugan produced game-topping totals of 30 points and 14 rebounds to spearhead Otsego’s 82-52 victory over the Tigers.
Otsego coach Josh Holmes said Dugan simply continues to get better and better.
“Seth has been doing a good job of catching the ball in spots where he likes to score and our guards have been doing a better job of getting him the ball in scoring situations,” Holmes said.
Allegan coach Craig Archer, for one, won’t shed any tears when Dugan graduates this May and heads off to Western Michigan University.
“Otsego has a seven footer who we don’t have anyone close to when it comes to height,” Archer said. ”Seth changes the game when you play against him. On top of that, he’s moving without the basketball much better this year, adding to his arsenal.”
While Dugan was the star of the game, he also had a strong supporting cast.
Twelve of the remaining 14 players on the Otsego roster found their way into the scoring column, with six of those scoring six or more points.
A.J. Atwater led the way in that regard, giving the Bulldogs a second double-digit scorer with 10 points. Billy Woodhams added seven points, Chris Pearl and Sam Hunt chipped in with six each and Soloman Barwegen and Jordan Owens contributed five each.
Owens also doled out a team-best five assists, with Atwater close behind at four. Kyle Robinson pulled down 10 rebounds to finish second on the team behind Dugan in that category.
Getting so many players into the game was definitely a plus for Holmes.
“We’ve had quite a few games where I’ve only rotated seven or eight guys into the lineup,” Holmes said. “So it was great to see some of these guys who practice hard every day get a chance to get some minutes and contribute.”
