Former commissioner and township official admits to attempted embezzlement
Former Allegan County Commissioner and Saugatuck Township Supervisor Terry Burns has entered a guilty plea to attempted embezzlement charges.
Burns was in court Monday, June 30, where admitted to loaning himself $16,500 from the estate of a friend who he’d been appointed guardian for and loaning $10,750 to a political consultant. Both were for the purposes of his run for state representative, which the political consultant, Matt Muxlow, was helping him with. Burns withdrew from the race after coming under investigation.
He is scheduled for sentencing Monday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m. before Allegan County Circuit Court Judge Kevin Cronin.
