Recycling event May 31 in Hamilton
Allegan County Resource Recovery is offering a free recycling event for participating residents on Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Allied Waste, 3310 M-40 Highway, in Hamilton.
The event includes disposal of household hazardous waste, document shredding and recycling of TVs, computers and other electronic devices.
No appointments are necessary, however identification must be shown to ensure residency in participating townships or cities with payment of the recycle surcharge on home tax bills.
The following communities apply: Allegan Township, Casco Township, Dorr Township, Cheshire Township, Gun Plain Township, Heath Township. Hopkins township, Monterey Township, Otsego City, Otsego Township, Overisel Township (surcharge not applied) Salem township, Saugatuck Township and Trowbridge Township.
Acceptable items for electronics recycling:
Office and household electronics such as air cleaners, answering machines, blenders, calculators, cellular phones, copiers, scanners, DVD players, fax machine, gaming units, iPods, MP3 players, radios, CD players telephones, televisions and various media such as floppy disks.
Computer components and accessories such as APC battery back-ups, circuit boards, docking stations, keyboards and mice, laptops, MACs, PCs, modems, monitors PDAs (Blackberrys, PalmPilots, iPhones), speakers and towers.
Acceptable household hazardous waste includes:
Home items such oil-based paint, wood stain, cleaning products, paint thinner, adhesives and glues.
Yard, garden and garage items include weed killer, fertilizer, pest poisons, pool chemicals, antifreeze, deck sealer and auto fluids.
Miscellaneous items include fluorescent light bulbs and CFLs, mercury thermometers, batteries (not auto) and aerosol cans.
Latex paint is not accepted.
